While I’m enjoying working on this -only site, I miss the dealing with . I’m thinking of doing a sister-project where you can record shareable voice-snippets which can then be embedded in and elsewhere by their permalinks.

More like imgbb.com or , except for audio. Using Open Graph meta so it’s portable anywhere with just an <audio> tag pointing to the resource. It will have an image of the waveform yes (again from OG) and below the <audio> tag when shared here.
Oooh. I see. Is universal audio support good in browsers? I think only mp3 is well supported, but unsure.
In-line playback might buffer no matter if users want to waste spend the bandwidth… 🤔

Did you delete the recording? Seems like it. How did you integrate? I don’t see an api! Maybe you mean that you added support to fetch a shared vocaroo audio to process it - embed and create a thumb?
Increased character limit to 500. I was hitting the limit way too often and I noticed a lot of posts needed 2 posts back to back to express fully. It should be plenty now, it aligns as well with Mastodon’s limit if we want in the future to enter the Fediverse/ActivityPub.

It’s either done or not. If it’s not done then you can add the reason to the text and/or a hashtag to make it searchable. Saves you from having to maintain a union type.

Trying out a new feed view where conversations are deduplicated and assembled into tree views, might make it easier to follow a convo by reading it naturally, though it loses some of the chronological sorting. Let’s see how it goes. cc suggested this kind
Yep, tree-view is much better. Some improvement: collapsed by default; or having +/- at the root message.
Added the +-, collapsed by default I don’t think so, you’d have to be clicking all the time to read a page. The tree assembles from what is fetched in the page, so if you increase the page size from you’d see more of the convo.
flutter has finally been revived and updated to match latest changes. Will have to iterate further naturally as new issues surface but I'm happy with what it's looking like.

Now it should work. The only issue is you have to tap again on it to close it, tapping outside won’t work.
You can add to your iPhone’s home screen by using the Add to Home Screen option in Orion (I’m guessing Safari works the same way). It would then work as if it was a native app.
It happens to me too. Idk, might be the VPS, might be Bun itself. Initially I thought it was because of SQLite being in the same thread so I refactored it into a Worker, so it’s not blocking the http server now. But it still happens. So it’s something else.
Made another important decision to remove all counters — notes, replies, following, followers — from both people and hashtags, so you focus on the content not the numbers. It was creating competition which feeds the dopamine system, which we have exhausted and try to avoid.

Also removed the relative timestamps and reply counts. We’re number-free. Numbers introduce unnecessary bias. Now the focus is on the content.
No reply counts I could get used to, but no timestamps? Now we're in uncharted waters...
Why do you need it? It’s just for stalking when someone was online and might bias to ignore older posts that could still be in —not knowing the time also makes it easier to reply whenever you feel, less pressure. I don’t have time on my desktop either, hate time :p
Hm idk, various things. If someone finds posts from months/years ago, timestamps put them in context (what "current events" are on their mind &c). Also hints if it's still fresh in mind when you reply, or if it'll be a blast from the past. (Arg for YYYYMMDD, perhaps not HHMMSS.)
That’s what I’m hoping for! Resurrecting old interesting discussions based on their content. And also not ignoring posts that are not fresh, e.g responding to a “good morning” post. If you see “5h” you would ignore it. Now you don’t know. Let’s see how it goes for a few days.
I want to avoid the “rush” of living on the edge all the time. Want to slow things down, put some thought, make browsing a profile look like reading one’s thoughts like a book. To feel timeless.
As others have said, this made me join (textlog has been open in a tab for weeks now without my creating an account). I'm on the fence about timestamps but everything else is great. The lack of dopamine from not being able to like or get liked is both painful and incredibly freeing. Also, I LOVE the design of this site.

In a past life, when I was a statistician, I often though that the primary goal of statistics was to communicate numerical ideas without actually using any numbers. Numbers make people anxious, manufacture false certainty, project false confidence. They invariably appear to say something that's related to but not quite exactly the truth.
I love the experiment of just not having them. I also wonder about the experiment of: could something fuzzier, less fraught replace them?
