Yeah it's happening to people. It's because the email contains a link and we don't have the reputation yet. Not sure what to do, have you tried reporting it as 'Not spam' in your client? Maybe if enough people do that it will fix. Gmail works ok.

Unfortunately no. Just starting it. Got the proof of concept loading a dir with its sub-dirs then rendering on the GPU in textures silky smooth. 1.7mb executable, but will need to level up to SDL and that will double the size I think.

I never used the online version, but the last time I used the offline version it already was a horrible experience. This was about 5 years ago, before I had moved entirely to Linux. It was so bad I downloaded a pirated version of some old MS Office 2007 Blue Edition to have something acceptable. I unironically prefer Libre Office.

TOML is a better format for configuration files IMO, if not for many reasons, primarily because TOML accepts comments. However, one annoying thing for TOML was the lack of schema, and the reliance on JSON Schema for that. Which I decided to tackle years ago when I started the TOML Schema project. In the past few months I leveraged code agents to take to the finish line and got something compelling: tomlschema.org

Exactly! The schema also enables tools to have rich editors to config files without having to know about the config file format upfront. There is an editor for TOML Schema as an example, on the website.

It didn’t work out, we found competition offering the same service for free so the fell apart. Need to find something else to do as a side project to textlog. 😕 Thinking of a code editor that’s focused on the new agentic workflows, so you have it on the side regardless of your agent tools and it monitors the git diff and offers a nice panorama view. I’ve done an extension for VSCode similar to this idea.

Because I don't have an ID card, I can't have a phone number, and therefore can't register a stable email address, which means I can't register on content platforms or publish content. The slowness is intentional. I wanted to make it look more like a user doing it than a script so it doesn't set off any alarms. I have it waiting from 1 to 3 seconds between clicks to slow it down. :-) So far so good!

I hate crawlers that don’t advertise they’re crawlers. ’n badly written. They don’t respect the canonical URLs so they keep getting themselves into a loop instead of actually crawling the site properly. They make the logs really hard to read. Can’t block them they’re distributed.

I am curious what an actual solution to this problem could be. Everything I've read about it feels like a bandaid — from robots.txt to cloudflare turnstile — there has to be a better way!

For this particular problem though, I feel like if the crawlers are coming from domestic / residential IP addresses and they lack a distinctive http header or user agent, it is indistinguishable from a denial of service attack and must be treated as such.

It would require permaban on IPs which would require permalogging of IPs in order to track them, and we are currently obfuscating them before hitting the DB with daily rotating salt so an anonymous user can’t be tracked. So we’d have to give up privacy/security :/

But as long as people can still use the site it's OK, right? Seems like the problem is often self-inflicted, either because the site is so bloated that answering even GET-requests is burdensome, or because they're trying to monetize the data and so must block non-paying scrapers.

My solution was to add an env var to disable logs from anonymous. At least now will be able to read the logs.

As a C programmer of 40+ years, I find this aesthetically and pedagogically displeasing, but I am delighted to see them getting fully absorbed in writing 130 PRINT "You have been eaten by a bear!" : GOTO 900. I was talking about this with some alumni students, specifically their experience learning python with us a few years earlier (these are college students who are not really using python any more). What it seems to boil down to is that with python you have the feeling that there is this huge forest of solutions to any problem you are having -- but you will never know the whole forest. BASIC feels like you "know" it after a day or two of playing around, evidently.

I've been working with physical AI - Letting LLMs control robots in a warehouse to collaborate and collectively come up with a physically correct solution to carry out a natural language intent. We had to study the reactive nature of agents, nudges they required, etc.
