In my case it was very useful. Since Covid-19, and fatherhood in general (I'm 45), I went thorough a series of burnouts, which were getting worse. The diagnosis gave me an answer to the question, "why can't I handle the pressure"? Being autistic, I tend to need good theoretical frameworks to make sense of my life. Thinks that I don't control or understand, are a source of anxiety. As a consequence, the diagnosis gave me the framework and helped me accept that my career path had do change.

Now, I still have the same problems as before, but now they don't blow out of proportion. When I don't feel well I tell myself, this is my autism, I need time alone, I need to recover, and thus I don't get the extra anxiety. Also, now I don't try to fight my limitations. I don't see much point in trying to build software at a "higher level", like whole products and services. I'm going to go down low and train myself on the fundamentals. Hopefully in time I'll be able to contribute to the foundational bits. You're right, it does get exhausting. At some point you just want to rebuild everything, which is not possible.

NIH syndrome? I am guilty of it too. I love implementing things from scratch, you learn a lot by doing so and you get to own the codebase end-to-end, so no surprises and fighting around others’ choices. It can get exhausting too though, in the end I succumb to using off-the-shelf components because my primary goals move at a higher level.

I direct a plan, then break it into phases, and each phase into sections with tasks and sub-tasks. I've been working with physical AI - Letting LLMs control robots in a warehouse to collaborate and collectively come up with a physically correct solution to carry out a natural language intent. We had to study the reactive nature of agents, nudges they required, etc.
