It's not clear, based on personal experience, how long - if it all - the software development field will value devs who actually enjoy the work. Most people I know are producing mostly AI work and there's an obvious skill decline that's resulted from it. 1/?
But does it matter if your boss doesn't care? Or if their boss doesn't care? If the paychecks keep coming who cares? What's the point of choosing the mountain if the "joy" just means more hours on screen that could have been spent elsewhere? 2/?
Whatโs the difference between a script-kiddy and a real #developernotesfollow? Abstraction. You can program your whole life without learning how to meaningfully abstract problems into simpler pieces that TRULY make the problem easier to understand.
Iโm not talking about design patterns or #OOPnotesfollow vs #FPnotesfollow. These tools can help. But to really simplify something for others, you need an intellectual empathy that many simply never figure out.

It's really sad that this is such a common sentiment whenever there's a nice online community nowadays. Guess most of us have been burnt enough times by now
My favorite part of classic reddit was the use of elaborate hacks to circumvent the restrictions on custom subreddit CSS. E.g. animated gifs weren't allowed, so people made filmstrip sprites with stepwise animation in such a way as to look exactly the same.
The essence of aligning large LLM models is basically to conform to the existing social order. ChatGPT respects China's order, while China's open-source models, although reluctantly, also tolerate the order in the US. Maybe we can build a revisionist SFT dataset.

I think more than 50% of our economy's businesses, are cosplaying. Not in it for customers or profit; in it for investors and investments. "Looking like a business", as your real line of work.
I've never thought of something like OF as gambling. But I guess your point is that young adults are pushed to a lot of "you have a 0.1% chance of hitting it big and a 99.9% chance of getting no online traction at all" types of careers?
Yeah, no point in investing in yourself or a real sustainable long-term future, just gamble the little you have for a shot at life above the line. Barbell economy.
a business loan is not an investment, it is debt financing that pays back with interest. An investment means putting money into a company to gain ownership or a share of future profits.

Yeah, 100%. That is completely something I am punting on currently. It would be easy to just copy over the solution from (extensions to) Markdown, but it's hard to entirely narrow in on both what tables ought to do and how to make them do it.

What is the exact definition of an IDE? JetBrain's products are as good as ever, in my opinion, but people have definitely made non-IDEs into big, hulking behemoths with tons of plugins. If anything, maybe "just an editor" is dead?
I think they mean the transition that all IDE's are making towards an agentic interface, hiding the code completely as humans will not have to interact with it since the AI will be doing a better job at everything, even auditing it.
I've been curious about the reasoning for prices too. Like, there has to be research behind it... But I agree it is far easier to buy four 2.5โฌ services than one for 5
I was curious of testing the Omarchy distribution this week just because I had some free time to work on it. I saw a lot of hate around it and kind of get the point but so far at least for what I have been doing it wasn't terrible (at least at the point of writing this) although I am not trying to convince anybody to use it. But it just remember me how much do I hate MS.
I think a lot of the pull around Omarchy is you get a riced desktop out of the box? Personally, I wouldn't really consider it for a number of reasons but I do appreciate a nice looking desktop.
If you want something similarly pretty but a bit more normal and less monolithic (who needs a whole 'distro' for what Omarchy provides anyway?) approach then I'd suggest Niri + Noctalia.

I hate it when I donโt remember if I took my midday pill or not. Not that it matters a lot, but still, annoying. I have notifications set up but I discard them by habit because they are exact times and my sleep pattern fluctuates.
I once saw someone flip their pill bottle upside down after taking a pill. Not sure it'd help me, because I suspect that somehow I'd still only pay half-attention when taking pills and so still get forgetful and confused
when I took insulin I would always forget and got a cap that had a time since the last time I had uncapped the pen, worked really well so I never double dosed. they make similar tools for pill bottles, but the best has been just having a pill case as much as it makes me feel old.
Iโve disabled ALL notifications except my meds. I highly recommend it. I check messaging or emails every hour or sometimes once a day. If Iโm expecting someone to message me Iโll re-enable the app, but then disable after. It is so liberating!
Thatโs how Iโve had it but it didnโt work because Iโd get my midday notification like 1 hour after waking up. My day pattern โ pill pattern. They just have to be spaced properly so Iโd have to have relative notifications according to when I wake up lol.
