My understanding is when text in a paragraph is all in an RTL script, the whole paragraph should be aligned right. I am not a native speaker either so take all of this with a big sack of salt. Not urgent or anything but if you are looking for your next challenge look into dir="rtl" and unicode-bidi: plaintext;.

thanks for the pointers. I think I implemented some of those changes but I need to double check some of the new API endpoints. for now notifs aren't native to android, which makes them a bit Shakey, but the perk is there are no f-droid blockers for publishing so I'm planning that

If u check the webapp you’ll see that now conversations are threaded with recent replies revealed and posts expandable to reveal even more from that thread. These new endpoints deliver all that, so we move from strictly chronological to more “recent discussion” based views. Just more work for the next versions :) lmk if you need smth

As a suggestion, could we stick to either first or second person for those sections and links. ie: either "to me" and "for me" or "to you" and "for you". One of each just adds cognitive load.

Repeating pronouns would not be confusing for me. It would serve to indicate that it's the prepositions which are the important part (which they are). Anyway the poll is now live at so we can see what the majority think. Side note: is there a better way to refer to one post in another like this than putting the whole URL in there?

I can't really think of anything better off-hand. You could overload the # some more and just follow it with the post number but then there would be chaos if anyone wanted a fully numerical hashtag which is going to happen at some point (new year, for instance). I like that it shortens it in the rendering as it stands - that's good enough for me. :)

That works nicely. Although again you will get unintentional usage because ~ followed by a number is often used to mean approximately that number. eg: "we're expecting ~100 people". You are also using it for strikethrough formatting. Looking at my keyboard the least ambiguous/overused symbol is probably the & - but I'm not sure if that's better overall.

I think the ampersand is ok. It's doesn't much historical use for these things and being feels more like an append behavior than movement to or continuation of a conversation. >_2596, branded but looks and feels awkward >2596 or >>2596, I like the directionality and punch.

The > is used for quoted text and also you need to say >10 sometimes. Ampersand is ok.

When writing new messages on mobile, the formatting help overlay thing overflows the area where I believe it tries to display. I’m talking about the "@mentions and more" bit. I’m using Firefox, haven’t tried on a Chrome-based mobile browser.

Small idea: add a form of acknowledgement for when you’ve read a reply/tagged post and do not want to quote reply to it necessarily. Could be as simple as a generic checkmark that has no toxic reward pattern attached to it.

Imho, these are just cravings. Dopamine is addictive like cocaine and we’ve been trained by SM to seek the acknowledgement like drug addicts seek their next dose. I feel it degrades the quality of interactions. Forums don’t have that, IRC doesn’t have that, they work fine. It’s only recent media that added this engagement hook, “seen by A, B, C”, “liked” etc.

i understand. My thinking was purely based on the fact that sometimes you just want to give a "thanks" or "im on it" reply to a tag or a mention, without necessarily clogging the channel with yet another reply/post. But I see the issue you raise as well.

Implemented #whisper modifier tag. Keeps that note and every reply beneath it out of /latest and /hot. If used on a reply, only its direct parent starts in the conversation; people who reply or are mentioned inside the whisper branch join it. Followers of tags in the whisper branch also receive it in for you. The conversation remains public on profiles, tag pages, threads, and permalinks. Not for private messages. It’s simply a way to keep a conversation out of people’s normal feeds.

Very interesting and cool idea! This means that tags now serve a dual purpose, which is not a bad thing. It's useful that people can follow , but perhaps special tags (of which there is currently only one to my knowledge) will eventually need to be called out visually or otherwise
